Anything that is unique and stands out from the crowd always gets the
attention. The artists and designers of these upside down houses wanted
to shake up the way we think of society’s most pressing need, shelter.
These are built to get attention, earn money or some time even as an
art. What ever the purpose is, they are really creative and unique. Have

Upside Down House in Terfens, Austria
Amazingly this house was built in a way it looks like it’s been uprooted
by a mighty tornado and planted on its roof, as an Austrian tourist
attraction, by architects Irek Glowacki and Marek Rozhanski. As well as
its impressive exterior the house is fully furnished with decor,
belongings and even a car – all painstakingly installed upside down. [More]

Upside Down House in German island of Usedom
The entire house and the household things are built upside down.
Visitors enter a house standing upside down in Trassenheide on the
Baltic Sea island of Usedom, northeastern Germany. The house was
constructed in 2008 by two Polish initiators Klaudiusz Golos and
Sebastion Mikuciuk, who also designed the house’s interior upside down.

Daniel Czapiewski, Polish businessman and philanthropist, built this
house as an artistic statement about the Communist era and current state
of the world. Many tourists who visit complain of mild seasickness and

Carpenters Gerhard Mordhorst, Gesellse Splettstößer and Manfred Kolax
built this upside down house for Dirk Oster, as an attraction for a
local zoo in Getorff, Germany. The 23ft-tall house has an upside-down
kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. Everything from the bathroom

In October of 2006, artist Erwin Wurm temporarily slammed an upside-down
house right on top of Vienna’s Museum Moderner Kunst (MUMOK). Project

French artist Jean-François Fourtou has always wanted to be an
architect. Tombée du Ciel (Fallen from the Sky), the upside down house
inspired by his grandparents’ home in France, reproduced to scale and
plopped on its roof with its entrance via window, is one of these works.

Upside Down Church ‘Device to Root Out Evil’, Canada
First installed in Vancouver, BC, Canada this art piece was deemed too
controversial for the city and was later relocated to a park in Calgary,
Alberta. The piece is a 25-ft tall, aluminum framed, red glass shingled
church turned on it’s head, the steeple pointing into the ground. It
